A Collaboration Between FoD and BONELA under the Global Fund

Project Objective

The project aims to reduce barriers that prevent LGBTIQ+ youth and key populations from accessing HIV, health, and social services especially discrimination, stigma, lack of information, unsafe environments, and institutional prejudice.

FoD implements community-level activities, engages youth structures, and facilitates rights-based education and linkage to essential services.

Key Activities

1. Community Dialogues on Human Rights & Health Access

FoD conducts dialogues with youth, traditional leadership, community influencers, and service providers on:

  • Sexual and reproductive health rights

  • HIV prevention, testing, and treatment

  • Stigma and discrimination in health settings

  • Mental health and psychosocial support

  • Safe access for LGBTIQ+ youth

2. Peer Support & Case Management

FoD identifies young people facing rights violations and links them to:

  • Legal assistance (via BONELA)

  • Friendly health facilities

  • Psychosocial support

  • Emergency social services

3. Training Young Leaders on Rights & Advocacy

FoD conducts capacity-building sessions with young activists and peer educators on:

  • Human rights literacy

  • Documentation of rights violations

  • Referral pathways

  • How to engage institutions and community structures

4. Service Provider Sensitization

FoD participates in engagement with clinics social workers, local authorities, cCommunity health structures to reduce discrimination and improve uptake of services by marginalized youth.

Impact

Through this collaboration, FoD strengthens community protection systems, reduces stigma, and promotes equal access to health services. The project is part of a national effort supported by the Global Fund to ensure that human rights are upheld within Botswana’s HIV response.
