Healing in Community: A Joint Reflection on Mental Health and Coming Out 2025

published on Oct 11, 2025

October 2025, Friends of Diversity joined hands with Common Thread Social Club to honour two powerful global moments: World Mental Health Day and National Coming Out Day, an event named MOSAIC 2025.

Together, we created a space where stories could be shared freely, without fear and where community became a form of healing.

The gathering brought together people from different backgrounds who sat in a circle of trust, some sharing their journeys of coming out, others speaking about the silent battles of mental health. For many, it was the first time they felt seen. For others, it was a reminder that they are not alone.

Our collaboration with Common Thread Social Club showed what is possible when compassion meets community. We witnessed courage in its purest form: a young person sharing their coming-out story for the first time; a parent reflecting on learning to accept their child; a survivor opening up about depression and finding strength through connection.

These stories reminded us that mental health and identity are deeply intertwined. Coming out is not only an act of pride but also an act of mental liberation and access to support, affirmation, and safe spaces is essential.

As Friends of Diversity, we continue our commitment to building communities where LGBTQ people can feel safe, valued, and supported. And with partners like Common Thread Social Club, we are weaving a stronger, more connected fabric of care for everyone.
