What do we do?

We empower, educate and advocate for the rights and wellbeing of underrepresented communities, particularly LGBTIQ+ in Botswana, through work focused on mental health, sexual and reproductive health, climate resilience, digital wellbeing, online safety and emerging technology issues affecting vulnerable communities.

Digital Well-Being

Friends of Diversity recognizes the growing influence of digital platforms, misinformation, online safety and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence on public discourse and community wellbeing. The organization works to establish and amplify LGBTQ+ voices in media, inform wider audiences, foster inclusion and support constructive public dialogue on issues affecting underrepresented communities. FOD advances this work through press releases, media interviews, public campaigns, digital communication, community engagement initiatives and awareness activities promoting responsible digital engagement and online safety.

Legal Reform

This includes: Face-to-face lobbying Position papers Report writing Letter writing Working with decision making bodies. FOD is currently part of the Equality and Justice Alliance in amending the Birth and Death Registration Act to recognize legal recognition Trans and Intersex people in Botswana.

Public education and awareness

Raises LGBT visibility Raises awareness: Mobilizes LGBT Population and Builds legitimacy Brings support. This is implemented by: Creating social media digital posters and leaflets, Organizing non-violent protests and demonstrations, Organizing workshops, Using the internet to gather and disseminate information.
