Open Hands supports and advocates for the mental health needs of LGBTQ+ communities in Gaborone and Francistown, Botswana.

This includes: Face-to-face lobbying Position papers Report writing Letter writing Working with decision making bodies. FOD is currently part of the Equality and Justice Alliance in amending the Birth and Death Registration Act to recognize legal recognition Trans and Intersex people in Botswana.
Public education and awareness
Raises LGBT visibility Raises awareness: Mobilizes LGBT Population and Builds legitimacy Brings support. This is implemented by: Creating social media digital posters and leaflets, Organizing non-violent protests and demonstrations, Organizing workshops, Using the internet to gather and disseminate information.

Establishes LGBT voice in media: Informs wide general audience: Fosters inclusion in society Pressurizes politicians Transforms attitudes. FOD executes this by: writing a press releases, Press conferences and doing media interviews.
